The Mold Remediation Specialist Certification validates competency to:
• Perform mold remediation for structures and contents
• Design and maintain containments
• Control pressure differentials
• Safely work in mold contaminated environments
• Understand common remediation work practices
• Review protocols
• Design and implement remediation processes• Understand and follow industry standards and legal requirements
• Recognize conditions conducive for causing mold growth
• Prevent amplification and containment for a variety of building types
• Implement proper use of Personal Protective Equipment
• Maintain appropriate documentation of removal/remediation processes
Your first mold remediation job’s start date and your last mold remediation job’s end date must be at least 12 months apart.
Example of an application with 12+ months of mold remediation experience:
Job #1: Start date- 10/01/2022 End date- 10/15/2022
Job #2: Start date- 11/05/2022 End date- 11/30/2022
Job #3: Start date- 01/10/2023 End date- 02/15/2023
Job #4: Start date- 05/12/2023 End date- 07/20/2023
Job #5: Start date- 09/15/2023 End date-10/02/2023
Before beginning your application, please ensure you have a minimum of 12 months field experience in mold remediation. If you do not have this experience, our team will be unable to approve your application.
Please note: Your MRS Application is not considered “submitted” until you have paid the non-refundable/non-transferable Application fee. Our team will not process Applications that are incomplete/unpaid.
Your Application will be reviewed by IICRC Staff, and you will receive a verdict within ten (10) business days of submission. If approved, you will then need to pay the non-refundable/non-transferable MRS Examination fee of $300.
Important Note: Once approved, you must pay your Examination fee, schedule your Examination time, and pass your Examination before your expiration date. Examination registrations take up to ten (10) business days for processing. If your registration is submitted within ten (10) business days of your deadline and is not processed prior to the deadline, your Application will be terminated and your payment will not be refunded.
Once your deadline has passed, you must wait one (1) year to reapply for the MRS Certification.
Tips to prepare for the Examination:
The Mold Remediation Specialist (MRS) Examination has no study guide. This is an experience-based Certification which requires prior knowledge and real-world experience for the Applicant to be approved for the Examination.
No course is associated with the MRS. The MRS Examination is only available online.
You have ninety (90) days from the Application approval date to pay for your Examination fee, schedule your Examination, and take your Examination and Retest Examination (if applicable).
Be prepared to log into your IICRC profile on the day of your Examination. IICRC staff are not available to assist with password resets or unlocking profiles outside of our normal business hours of Monday through Friday from 7:00am to 3:30pm Pacific time.
