This webpage is for those who currently hold the Mold Removal Specialist Certification.

The IICRC Mold Remediation Specialist (MRS) Certification is now ANAB Accredited!

The IICRC Mold Removal Specialist Certification will no longer be eligible for renewal. Technicians with the Mold Removal Specialist Certification must complete the Mold Remediation Specialist Exam and pass with a 79% or higher to stay Certified. Complete the following steps to transition from the Mold Removal Specialist Certification to the Mold Remediation Specialist Certification.

Step 1:

Gather your mold remediation job experience documentation

  • You may use the same job experience information that was submitted for your initial Mold Removal Specialist Application.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of verifiable mold remediation field experience is required.

Step 2:

Submit your Mold Remediation Specialist (MRS) Application

  • Log into your IICRC Profile by clicking here.
  • Go to “My Certifications/Exam Registration”.
  • Click the “Exam Registration” button.
  • Scroll through the list and select the MRS.
  • In the Requirements Summary, select “Government Issued Identification”. (You must provide a current and valid government-issued photo ID such as a passport or driver’s license).

Please note: Those transitioning from the Mold Removal Specialist to the Mold Remediation Specialist will receive a discounted Exam Fee rate of $50 (originally $300). If you see an invoice for the full $300 amount on your profile, please contact us immediately at 844-464-4272 or mrs@iicrcnet.org).

  • Review the Content Outline (located in Appendix A of the MRS Candidate Handbook)

The Mold Remediation Specialist (MRS) Examination has no study guide. This is an experience-based Certification which requires prior knowledge and real-world experience for the Applicant to be approved for the Examination.

No course is associated with the MRS. The MRS Examination is only available online.

Step 4:

Take the Examination

You have ninety (90) days from the Application approval date to take your Examination.

  • Schedule your Examination time through the IICRC Online Examination Portal and Proctoring Tool Scheduler.
  • Prepare your Examination Space (Section 4 of the Candidate Handbook).
    • Check that your computer meets the technical requirements needed.
    • Ensure your space is clear and follows the IICRC Examination Policy (see Candidate Handbook).
  • Log in at least fifteen (15) minutes before your scheduled appointment on the Examination day.

The two (2) hour Examination includes 100 scored multiple-choice questions.

The Mold Remediation Specialist (MRS) Certification is based on a job analysis completed in the United States. Because of this, the Examination is only available in US English with Imperial Measurements.
